The week-long Global Halal Summit (GhaS) 2023 was held in Kuala Lumpur, (Malaysia) on 9-12 September, with the support of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). The summit is the result of a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), including the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Halal Development Corporation (HDC) and Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM). The key event of the summit was the 13th Halal Certification Body Conference (HCBC). This tradition dates back to 2006. To date, JAKIM recognises 84 certification bodies from 47 countries responsible for verifying the halal status of various products destined for Malaysia. Also, MITI held events at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from Sept 12 to 15, including the Malaysia International Halal Exhibition (MIHAS) by MATRADE, the Halal Professional Seminar by JSM and the HDC Industry Forum. In a statement, Datuk Hajah Hakima Binti Mohd Yusoff, CEO of JAKIM, emphasised the aim of the summit to promote unity among halal certification bodies in Malaysia. She hoped that such collective efforts would emphasise Malaysia's status as a global leader in halal, reflecting the government's unwavering commitment to the industry.
